Ugandan Hair & Skin Care in Dubai: Movit, Ntale & More

You can find almost anything in Dubai — except, for a long time, the green Movit jar your mother kept on the dressing table. Ugandan hair and skin care is its own tradition: gels that hold in heat, jellies that go on after a bucket bath, body milk for skin that has been out in the sun all day. This is our guide to building that shelf again in the UAE, with the brands you actually grew up on.

Why your routine changes when you move to the UAE

Kampala sits on the equator at altitude — mild, green, and rarely punishing. The UAE is the opposite kind of climate: arid, with midday summer temperatures averaging around 42°C and coastal humidity that climbs past 80% (Geography of the United Arab Emirates). Then you step indoors and the air conditioning pulls every bit of moisture back out.

Our Dubai customers tell us the same two things. Gel that used to set beautifully now goes tacky by lunchtime. And skin that never needed much suddenly feels tight and ashy by evening. Nothing is wrong with the products — the air is simply doing something different. The fix is usually lighter product more often, and a proper moisturiser at night.

The hair shelf: Movit and the gels that hold

Movit is the household name for a reason. Movit Products Limited was founded in Kampala in 1997 and grew from a workshop in Namasuba into one of Uganda's largest personal care manufacturers, distributed across East Africa and the COMESA region (Movit). When people say "Ugandan hair gel," they usually mean this.

We have just brought in the Movit Styling Hair Gel 250g — the everyday jar, new to the shop this month and the size most families go through fastest. If you style daily or share a jar at home, the Movit Styling Hair Gel 500g is the better value. Both are alcohol-free and non-flaking, which matters a great deal here: in Dubai humidity, a flaking gel shows.

Curls, texture and locs

For defined curls without a relaxer, the Movit Curl Activator Hair Gel 360g is the glycerine-based option — apply to damp hair, scrunch, leave it. A gentler texturising route is S-Control Green, the texturising crème that softens the curl pattern rather than straightening it out completely.

If you wear locs, braids or twists, Stylin' Dredz Mouldin Gel Wax is the maximum-hold wax for retwisting, and ECO Style Olive Oil Hair Gel is the neutral all-rounder for edges and slick-backs. For weekly conditioning there is Doo Gro Mega Thick, and for oiling the scalp between wash days, our own Afri Herbal Clove Hair Oil 200ml. Covering greys before a wedding? Inecto Super Black is the 28ml sachet everyone knows.

The skin shelf: Ntale, body milk and butters

Ntale Skin Care Jelly 25g is the small tin that lives in a handbag — the one people search for by name more than almost anything else in our beauty range. It is a jelly, so it sits on top and seals: good on elbows, knees, knuckles and the ends of the hair after a shower.

For all-over daily moisture, Movit Body Milk is the light, fast-absorbing choice for mornings before work. For the heavier night layer — or for skin that has spent the day in air conditioning — go to a butter: Queen Elisabeth Cocoa Butter Hand & Body Cream 500ml is our deepest-stocked tub, and Cocopulp Coconut Oil Cream and Africa's Best Olive Oil Body Whip cover the coconut and olive camps.

BeautiOn Skin Care Cream 330ml sits in between — richer than a milk, lighter than a butter. For babies, Ballet Baby Perfumed Baby Jelly 250g and plain Almond Oil BP are the two most Ugandan mothers in Dubai ask us for.

A simple week that works in Dubai

Nothing complicated, and nothing you have not done before:

  • Every morning: body milk while the skin is still slightly damp from the shower — it holds better than on dry skin.
  • Every morning: a small amount of gel, not a handful. Humid air keeps hair pliable for longer, so you need less than you did at home.
  • Every evening: jelly or butter on the dry spots — hands, elbows, heels — after a day in air conditioning.
  • Once a week: oil the scalp, then a conditioning treatment on wash day.

Everything above is on the Uganda · Beauty & Skincare shelf, and the wider Beauty & Skincare collection carries the Kenyan, Nigerian and Ethiopian favourites alongside them. If you are restocking the kitchen in the same order, the full Uganda shop is one delivery away.

Frequently asked questions

Which Movit gel size should I buy?

The 250g jar is the everyday size for one person and the one we would start with. The 500g is better value if two or more people in the house use it, or if you style every single day.

Why does my gel flake more in Dubai than it did in Kampala?

Usually it is quantity, not the product. Hot, humid air keeps hair damp for longer, so gel that would have dried down at home stays wet and then sets hard in the air conditioning. Use less, and apply to damp rather than soaking hair.

Do you deliver Ugandan beauty products across the UAE?

Yes — we deliver across Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the northern Emirates, and beauty travels well alongside a grocery order, so most customers add it to their matooke and posho run.
